Weighted vests and jackets were originally made for children, but adults use them also! Adults like that the vests and jackets appear "typical" just as much as children do.
The jackets are all custom weighted for you. Jackets have the weights loaded into lining fabric and stitched onto the jacket and are visible from the inside. The weights are permanently attached. Because this is a custom product, it is not returnable or exchangeable.
To get the best fit - please view the size charts for women's and mens' a (in the photos). These are dimensions of an unweighted Columbia jacket. You need to allow room for the weights - measure over a sweatshirt to get the correct size.
Weighted garments are designed to calm children and adults with anxiety, autism, ADD, Sensory processing or sensory integration disorder and ADHD. Weight is often used to assist with to self-calming and relaxing so that sensory stimulus can be processed. The use of a weighted vest provides unconscious information from the muscles and joints.
Adults and children who are easily distracted, hyperactive, anxious, or lacking in concentration respond positively to the additional weight or pressure a vest provides.
Some therapists have also found that a weighted garment may assist with reflex maturity, body position awareness and coordination, balance, eye/hand coordination, spatial perception and hearing and speaking skills. Because of these anecdotal outcomes, many therapists are recommending the use of a weighted vest.
